Who's Who in Trekforce?

Rob Murray – John, FounderRob Murray-John
I completed my degree in Tourism and Planning nearly 20 years ago! Back then I started as an Assistant Leader with Trekforce. Within two years, plus some further training, I was leading expeditions to SE Asia. I then went over to lead expeditions to South America. Next I became the Country Co-ordinator setting up and running Trekforce operations in Central America. I was there for over 3 years. I returned to the UK and became Operations Director in 2001. Next, with a growing family I took over as Managing Director in 2003. I now work with companies to enable them to offer direct assistance to the communities with whom we work, as well as exciting expeditions for their staff. I also oversee the growing provision of logistics and safety staff for TV and film productions overseas. However my key role is to ensure the continued professionalism, ethics and that Trekker enjoyment continues, as Trekforce grows.

Marcus Watts, Managing DirectorMarcus Watts, Managing Director
Marcus oversees the business development of Trekforce and also owns Greenforce. He is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

Paul Martin, Operations ManagerPaul Martin, Operations Manager
French Foreign Legion, 3 years leading expeditions in Africa, some further time in the British Army, setting up a Marine Research Station in the Bahamas, Guinness Book of Records for the fastest Marathon run with indigenous Maasai and also many years as an engineer, I bring a variety of skills to my role overseeing the operations and field staff within Trekforce! It also helps that I have done the field, first our traditional Gap expedition in Belize, while the latest was with a film crew in Morocco. So if something needs sorting in the field, it ends up on my desk!

Rebecca Farr, Trekkers and Groups ManagerRebecca Farr, Trekkers and Groups Manager
I spent a year travelling and working throughout Australia, before studying for a degree in International Tourism Management. I then put my theory into practice by working for a well known travel advisor, followed by a number of years managing customers at BAA. But I have to balance the office with getting “out there” hence roughing it through Thailand, then an “interesting” journey around Malaysia and on to Singapore. If you want advice where to go with Trekforce or to create a program for your school group just let me know, and I will make it happen.

Nadia Daer, Trekker AdvisorNadia Daer, Trekker Advisor
It all started when I heard about Trekforce and their Amazon expedition. So despite finishing my degree at Leeds Uni, it was the amazing time I had with Trekforce as a Trekker out in South America that pulled me back. Having been a Trekker myself I know how difficult it is to select which one to go on. But give me a call I and I promise to give you the low down on all the locations and not just the Amazon!

Ed Swales, Senior Expedition LeaderEd Swales, Senior Expedition Leader
I have over 9 years Army experience in N. Ireland, France, Australia, New Zealand, Brunei, Kenya and Jamaica and I am also trained as a British Military Parachutist. I have also been a security consultant for 6 years in the Former Yugoslavia, Algeria, Indonesia, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the UK.

I am very keen on challenging travel to remote locations, and with my school friend Bruce Parry we have explored many exciting locations and cultures. I now provide overall expedition advice and work on some of Trekforces special overseas projects.

John Sullivan, Expedition LeaderJohn Sullivan, Expedition Leader
John first discovered the jungle whilst serving with the Royal Marines in Brunei 1997. Having left the forces John wanted to continue his sense of adventure by leading expeditions, especially in a challenging jungle environment. Thus leading for Trekforce was a natural transgression from military life.

Believing in the philosophy work hard, play hard, it is no surprise John has worked for Trekforce in Borneo, Belize and his most favorite of all Papua New Guinea. He is now also involved win the Trekforce film side – he set up programmes Last Man Standing and Extreme Dreams for the BBC.

Luke Collyer, Expedition LeaderLuke Collyer, Expedition Leader
When not in the jungle, Luke works as an outdoor instructor in the UK. He also boasts extensive bushcraft skills for temperate and tropical areas and whenever possible will show off his fire lighting skills to anyone remotely interested in watching.

He has led expeditions to Borneo and Indonesia and led his first expedition with Trekforce Belize in 2004. From here he has just kept coming back repeating Belize four times in a row. In 2006 Luke was part of an expedition that took Jack Osborne into the depths of Belize for the second of his "Adrenaline Junkie" series.

Jen Mullier, Expedition Leader Jen Mullier, Expedition Leader
Jen's first taste of expeditions was as a volunteer in Borneo in 2001. Since then she has been involved in five expeditions with Trekforce in Belize and Borneo. She has a degree in Environmental Biology and has aided research projects and in Mexico and Borneo. She is also a keen rock climber and mountaineer, and generally is happiest out there with the Trekkers leading to somewhere new and in-accessible !

Ed Stafford, Expedition LeaderEd Stafford, Expedition Leader
Ed, from Leicestershire, started running expeditions after retiring from the British Army as a Captain in 2002. He has led several expeditions to Patagonia and Borneo, and in 2007 was the Trekforce Country Director in Belize. He has also worked alongside the United Nations in Afghanistan assisting with the presidential elections advising on security, planning and logistics.

Sam Gascoyne, Expedition MedicSam Gascoyne, Expedition Medic
Sam graduated from King’s College London as a children’s nurse, and also holds a Diploma in Tropical Nursing and has completed a course in high altitude medicine at the National Mountaineering Centre.

Amy Hughes, Expedition MedicAmy Hughes, Expedition Medic
Amy has completed a postgraduate diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. As well as completing hospital training in emergency medicine, paediatrics, general surgery and intensive care, Amy has also circled the skies of New Zealand with the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter, explored the Belizean Jungle for Trekforce as back up for Jack Osbourne. She has been engulfed in mud in the Borneo jungle whilst assisting Carphone Warehouse in their Trekforce corporate challenge.
